IMDB - The Searchers (1956)

The Searchers (1956) - Dang, John Wayne is one cocky son of a B. He's takin' names and kickin' some ass in The Searchers. The movie does drag on a little too long and it skips forward about 8 years which is hard to tell because they do not transition it very well through out the film. My favorite character was Mose played by Hank Worden and his dopey one liners. Not too bad of a flick if you're craving some classic shoot 'em up, knock 'em down Cowboys and Indians type stuff.

7 out of 10 stars.

Memorial Day Camping

Suzie, Jason, Laynie, Aimee & I went up to Crow Wing Lake campgound this weekend to do some camping. We left our place Friday morning and when we got up to camp the weather was pretty nice. I was impressed by the campground and its amenities. They had frisbee golf, heated pool with slides, large play area for kids, nature hike, wi-fi, dog bath area...etc. I didn't really care for the owners. The owner lady seemed like a bitchy old hag but we only had to deal with her two times, when we check in and when we check out. I also hated that other campers did not show much respect by walking through our sites to get to the boat docks. They are tripping on our tent guide lines, walking right next to Zoey and just not giving a shit about our privacy. The owners need to make a designated path to the docks. Avoid staying in sites T4 & T5.

Saturday was incredibly windy. Winds were gusting to 35+ mph and steady at 20+ mph straight off of the lake. It was cloudy, cold and you could not tell if it was going to rain. We decided to head 10 minutes north to Baxter to do some shopping. We hit up Fleet Farm, Gander Mountain & Reeds Outdoor Outfitters. Thankfully the winds did die down towards the ends of the night to allow us to have a campfire. Zoey did not care for the campfire because the wind would blow smoke in her face and that did not agree with her sensitive nose.

Sunday, oh Sunday what a wonderful day! Sunny!! Wind out of the northwest!!! Laynie was being a good girl!!!! You couldn't ask for much more. Jason and I took out Suck My Wake (that's my boat) to do some fishing. We probably caught 20-30 large mouth bass and a handful of northerns. Sorry for catching all the fish Nordy. Keep your chin up little camper, some day the fishing gods will visit the end of your lure. I forgot to mention that we put Zoey in the deeper water by the dock and she can swim! She enjoyed fetching snail shells from shore and digging in the sand. Later in the day we took Zoey to the dog bath station but on the way Zoey met a Rat Terrier in an aggressive way. This Rat Terrier ripped the leash out of its owners hand and went straight at Zoey putting the jaws of life on Zoey's neck. Aimee picked Zoey up and the Rat Terrier was hanging from Zoey so she prided the crazy dogs jaws off of Zoey. Luckily the crazy mutt bit Zoey's harness but she was pretty shook up. The owner of the dog apologized over and over again and felt really bad. Things happen but what pissed me off was the owner knew her dog was aggressive towards other dogs and didn't have the dogs muzzle on her. She put the muzzle on after her mutt attacked Zoey. Stupid bitch.

Sunday we woke up to rain. Son of a frick! I hate tearing down camp in rain. We packed up and put everything wet in to the boat and took off. Once we got home we had to take everything out and set it up to dry. As of a few minutes ago everything has been put away.

Yay! Happy fun time. We are sitting in the tent vestibule to get out of the wind storm.

Zoey still scared shitless after her attack and not really enjoying her bath.

Tile Complete

I am happy to announce that the front entry way tile is now complete. Thank god I went to that class at the Tile Shop otherwise this could have been a disaster. I'm very happy with the way it turned out and can't wait until we have an open house party.

I had to rip up the old vinyl. I think this was one of the worst parts because they used so much glue. I just sat there chipping away at it for a couple hours.

This was after I put down the self leveling mortar. As you can see a little miss Libby kitty decided to leave some tracks behind.

This picture is just after removing the tile spacers so no grout yet.

All grouted, dry and sealed. Last thing to do is clean the tile and put the base boards back on.

Paintball Is Now...Over

We got the word that the lots next to Andy's land have been sold which in turn means no more paintball. 3 of the lots we used as the paintball field and the other lot was used for camping. There really isn't much you can do one 1 lot of land other than camping so paintball is no more up at Andyland. Hopefully we can find a new place to play some woodsball come fall. I was really looking forward to this weekends trip, not really for the paintball aspect of it but just to hang out with friends, have some laughs and a few dozen beers.

A few paintball memories.

Fishing Opener

What a beautiful weekend! Last year 40 degrees with rain and this year 80 degrees with plenty of sun. I only caught a couple walleyes and a perch but the weather made up for the bad fishing. Of course not everything could be perfect as the DNR boated up to tell us on Friday that there is now a ban on camp fires due to the dry weather. It was odd sitting around a fire pit with black logs and made it interesting cooking dinner which did require a camp fire. Oh well, it was still a lot of fun and can't wait until next year. Here are some pictures.

Fish On!

Fishing opener is coming up this weekend and I'm getting excited. It will be the first camping trip of the year. We camp in the Chippewa National Forest next to Cut Foot Sioux Lake. The fun begins Thursday morning and so far (knock on wood) the weather is looking pretty good. Last year, weather was not so good. I do not want a repeat of 40 degrees and rain. I even remember some snow flakes falling last year. This year I will be bringing up "Suck My Wake", that's my boat (Forrest Gump voice), so we will see how the 14 foot fiberglass wonder does. I picked up my fishing licence and have my fishing poles all rigged up at rearin' to go. It might be a good idea to check and make sure the boat starts before we head out. I'll have to charge up the marine battery that has been in a winter slumber tonight. Maybe this year we will catch something other than a cold.

Rainy Cinco de Mayo

James is having some people over tonight for Cinco de Mayo and I decided to make some guacamole using this ChipotleFan recipe. I made it yesterday and it tasted nasty. It had WAY to much garlic and was WAY to hot. Chipotle's guac tastes nothing like this recipe. While researching the web I came across another recipe that claims to be that of Chipotle. The new recipe called for 24 avocados which would make an overload of guac. I was able to trim it down to 4 avocados. This recipe tasted the closest to Chipotle's guac. I just need to stop by Chipotle and pick up a few bags of chips to finish everything off.

IMDB - Bringing Up Baby (1938)

Bringing Up Baby (1938) - Katharine Hepburn & Cary Grant star in this classic movie. It's very obvious that creators of the 1987 movie Who's That Girl? took much of their script from Bringing Up Baby. Leopard, check. Man about to get married, check. Woman is a little crazy and takes man on wild goose chase, check. Since the past few old movies have brought on the suck, I thought before hand this movie would continue this trend, I was wrong. I really enjoyed this movie and glad I got a chance to watch it.

8 out of 10 stars.

I Shall Rejoice (drink)!

I have just put my final payment on the Jeep in the mailbox! YAY! After 60 months it is finally all mine! ALL MINE I SAY! It's a good thing too because now I need a new radiator, belt, front brakes, rear brakes, rear calipers, steering system and I have to fix a rust spot. I have to get her all fixed up before Moab in September.

This is what she looked like the day I brought her home.

She looks a little different these days.
