Oh The Joy

There is nothing better than getting home from work and having the dog puke in the living room. I am very thankful for 409 foaming carpet cleaner right now. Thank god Zoey makes up for this delightful vomit accident with her cuteness.

Rockin' The Slopes

Aimee was off today so I decided to work from home. We headed over to Buck Hill and hit the slopes. Aimee didn't have any skis so she had to rent some or as what we called people back in the day that rented skis 'Rental Mentals'. We stayed for a couple hours and it wasn't that bad until the wind started to pick up then it became very cold riding up the chair lifts.

I'm breaking this picture out of the old skool MikeyB photo album. Jason & Mike N. back in da day.

IMDB #249.5 In Cold Blood (1967)

In Cold Blood - Yes this is IMDB #249.5. Why .5 you ask, because it was #249 when I put it on my Netflix queue but when it arrived it moved out of the #249 spot and off of the top 250 list.

In Cold Blood was a great movie and can stand up the the acting & cinematography standards of todays movies. Robert Blake plays Perry, an excon that has some childhood issues that come into play when he & Scott Wilson's character Richard go to the Clutter farm house in search of $10,000 locked in a safe. This screenplay was written from Truman Capote's book In Cold Blood which was based off of a true story of the 1959 murders of a wealthy farmer's family (Clutter) in Kansas. If you get a chance also check out the movie Capote starring Philip Seymour Hoffman.

9 out of 10 stars.

IMDB #250 Great Expectations (1946)

Great Expectations - For being made in 1946 it really wasn't that bad of a movie. Although I grew up with the 1998 version of Great Expectations starring Ethan Hawke & Gwyneth Paltrow I really felt the 1946 was lacking the chemistry between Pip (Finn in the 1998 version) & Estella. The 1946 version did not do a good job of developing the relationship between the two characters and it didn't focus enough on the infatuation Pip had for Estella when they were growing up. They did focus a good portion of the movie on the escaped convict Magwitch unlike the 1998 version. I haven't read the book but from what I have read under the user comments on IMDB this 1946 version is close to spot on.

6 out of 10 stars

IMDB Top 250

I just joined Netflix (again) because I came up with an idea. I'm going to work my way backwards through Internet Movie Databases (IMDB) top 250 rated movies of all time. I will only put the movies I haven't seen before in my queue starting with Mulholland Dr. I can have up to 3 movies out at one time. Only 1 of the 3 movies out will go towards the top 250 quest. I might even write a quick review of each movie depending on how bored I am at the time.

Some Pond Hockey and Sledding

Aimee and I went over to Lake Nokomis to check out the U.S. Pond Hockey Championship. We also brought Zoey with us to check out the action. We didn't have a team to cheer for so it wasn't so exciting but we watched for a little while just to check it out. There wasn't a ton of people there unless they were all hanging out in the warming tent AKA the beer tent. Unfortunately we were unable to enjoy the "warming tent" because we had Zoey with. The pond hockey looked like a lot of fun but we would get schooled if we ever put a team together.

We also went to Neil park in Burnsville for some downhill sledding. That hill was crazy! We totally picked the wrong sleds for this outing. Those plastic sleds hurt you ass when you hit a bump. Next time we are heading over to Fleet Farm for some tire inner tubes.

Mt.Buck Hill

After 5 years I finally hit the slopes again. I went over to Buck Hill this morning for their 10am-1pm lift ticket for $10. It was just like getting back on a bike again, I didn't miss a beat. I spent about 1.5 hours there before my feet started to hurt because of my ski boots. The weather was beautiful. Crisp cold air and the sun shining down with out a cloud in the sky. It felt really good to get out skiing again. Hopefully the next time I go I can gather some people to come with me because it is damn boring on the chair lift by yourself.

SON OF A FRICK!

I noticed last night that my radiator was leaking. I took the front grill off last night to determine where the leak is coming from. I was hoping it was just a loose connection from the tranny cooler I install this summer but it apears the leak is coming from inside the radiator. I'm going to try some stop leak to see if it will resolve the problem for the short term. My radiator fluid is looking pretty nasty with red Gilbert dust inside so I'm pretty sure I will have to replace it.

Winter Wonderland

Finally we have SNOW!!! This is my favorite season (when there is snow). Some people might think I'm crazy but I love the cold temps and the white stuff on the ground. The best is after a good snow it stays light out after the sun goes down and when you step outside, take a deep breath and you can feel that clean cold air run down into your lungs. We received around 7 inches of snow last night into this morning. Aimee and I took Zoey out for a walk and she was lovin' it. We forgot the camera last night but I took some picture from her walk this morning.

This is Zoey's sweet new $1.90 sweater from Fleet Farm.

Eggs Anyone?

This morning after filling up the H-Bomb for James I went into the gas station for a yummy diet wild cherry Pepsi. I get in line to check out and there is a Mexican man & younger woman carrying some products in plastic bags. Because curiosity killed the cat I took a closers look and they had 16 cartons of eggs. For you people that don't like to do math that is 192 eggs. They get up to the casher and she says to the guy, "Didn't I see you already today buying eggs?” The Mexican lady translates what the cashers said and the guy answers with a yes. What does one do with 192 plus eggs? Make a huge omelet? Egg 192 houses? Practice cracking open eggs so you don't get that little piece of the shell in the bowl? Son of a B, I hate when that happens. Then is becomes an olymipic sport just to get that little micro piece of egg shell out of the bowl. And why are they buying the eggs from a gas station? I just thought it was a rather odd thing to see this morning.

Vicious Poodles

I would like to express my hatred towards the poodle dog race. Standard poodles are fine, it's those little frickin toy & miniature poodles that are vicious little bitches. Don't let their cuteness fool you. Why are they vicious you ask? Because their dumbass owners baby them like they are their own child. Just because you can't bare children doesn't mean you should make your dog your next of kin. I'm more scared of poodles than Cujo. I was taking Zoey out for her morning urination session today and this lady was walking down the street with her little gray colored poodle. She started to let her vile poodle sniff Zoey and of course Zoey’s curious because what dog's not curious about sniffing some morning dog booty. So said vile dog comes up sniffs, growls and nips at Zoey a couple times. The lady just says all calm a few times to vile dog, "Oh (insert vile poodle name here) behave", as I'm thinking to myself, “what the frick is that going to do lady?”. If your dog is misbehaving you need to be more dominate with your tone of voice. That vile poodle put Zoey in her place and Zoey wanted nothing to do with it. Zoey just sat there all quiet probably pissing her furry pants. To sum everything up I dislike poodles.

The Coolest Diet Coke & Mentos Video You Will See Today

An Inconvenient Truth

An Inconvenient Truth is stunning documentary about global warning and is quite an eye opener. Al Gore does a great job of stating the facts and studies that have been done on global warming which started back in the 70's. Some of the scenes are haunting. Not only does it tell a story about how global warming effects the earth but it also tells the story of how our government has ignored the issue with ignorance and greed. He also points out how easy it is to correct the issue and it doesn't take much for example stricter emissions on vehicles (and you know the technology is out there), recycling, proper inflation of your car tires, replace a regular incandescent light bulb with a compact fluorescent light bulb, basically common sense. A good quote from the documentary, "You can't make somebody understand something if their salary depends upon them not understanding it.". This documentary should be watched by everyone.

Mild Winter No More

I'm really getting tired of this mild weather this winter. I want some cold! I want some snow! I haven't been able to go ice fishing because many of the metro lakes still have open water and the ice is a bit too thin for my taste. I'm also getting sick of looking at the feces brown colored lawns and trees. Hey Denver, how about you start sharing the wealth and leave some of that snow for us. Thanks El NiƱo you winter weather killing bastard. But on the bright side it looks like this mild weather will be put to an end in a couple days. Some single digit temps should help the ice conditions on the local lakes.

Lake Benton

Aimee's cousin Shanna was having her wedding reception down in Lake Benton this weekend so we decided to make the drive down to the reception and stay with Aimee's Grandma for the night. On the way down we drove through New Ulm so at the last minute we stopped at the Schell Brewery. We didn't take the tour but we did hit up the gift shop. They had all kinds of sweet Schell Brewery & Grain Belt gear. Aimee purchased a bunch of Christmas items that were 50% off and I picked up a Billy Buck, Bock Fest Bobby and Fred the Peacock bobblehead. I'm not at all a fan of bobbleheads but these bobbleheads were pretty damn cool looking plus they only made 1000 of each. Some day when I have a bar they will look nice behind it but for now they will lay dormant in their boxes until that day comes.

We arrived at Grandmas around 4pm, settled in and then went to the reception which was at the Lake Benton American Legion. We talked to some of Aimee's older relatives on the Nordmeyer side and had a few minutes to see Shanna. Shanna got married in Mexico so this reception was for all of the family & friends that were unable to make the trip.

The next day we went over to Aunt Helen's to visit. She looked like she was doing very well. We also took a tour of the HUGE (sarcasm) town of Tyler which is where Grandma lives (Lake Benton is 7 miles down the road). Aimee had to show me this head stone in the cemetery. Mr. Robert "Bob" Johnson had a nice head stone made with a picture of himself and his wife. The issue, they got divorced so he put a 'For Rent' sign over his wife's side of the head stone. We went back to Grandma's for some pork chops, beans and potatoes. We said our goodbyes then it was time to head home.

SNOW!! FINALLY!!

We finally got some snow!! It may have been only a couple inches of the white stuff but it was enough for Zoey to experience her first snow fall. She went CRAZY NUTS when we brought her outside. Running in circles and eating snow gave her a little white beard of snow. Now every time we take her outside to do her beez-kneez she takes forever to figure out that she is out to potty, not play in the snow. I can't wait until we great a real snow fall, if that even happens this year.
