Afton Backpacking Adventure

Pete, Kris and I went to Afton State Park this weekend to test out gear before we hike the Superior Hiking Trail in June. Pete and I started out on Friday. Yes it was raining but we can't predict the weather when we hike the Superior trail. Surprisingly it wasn't that bad. We were able to put up a shelter to cook up dinner and stay out of the rain. I also got the chance to put up the Hubba Hubba in the rain which I have never done before. I stayed dry all night so it must have been a success.

Saturday the rain finally stopped around 6am. Around 10am we received a visit from the beer fairy (Scott) to which he also brought someone (can't remember his name) from Carmichael Lynch whom was doing some market research for the Sierra Nevada Brewing Co account. Free beer (Sierra Nevada and Sam Adams)!! Kris arrived around 10:30am because he thought he was going to melt in the rain the night before. After our morning beer we loaded up the backpacks with all of our gear and headed out onto the trail. We ended up hiking around 6 miles. After our hike we cheated a little. We hiked to the parking lot, jumped into Kris's Jeep and went to Taco John's for some grub. After we got back we got the fire roaring and hung out around camp.

This was our rain camp. Pete and I were able to cook up some dinner and stay dry.

Sock Monkey says the rain is gone!

Here is our camp. Pete was in the hammock, Kris and I were in the Hubba Hubba. We had site 6 which has an awesome view of the river.

Kris and Pete look lost.

View of the St. Croix river from the trail.

Pete working the Bush Buddy. This is a kick ass little stove.

FIRE!
